My LM Montgomery fix

Two of my favourite writers were born on the 30th of November. )And so was my Dad, who's one of my favourite people)

One is L.M. Alcott, who wrote Little Women, and the other is L.M. Montgomery, who wrote Anne of Green Gables'. L.M. Montgomery's books are sublime - the writing is lyrical, the descriptions are beautiful, and all her stories are so suffused with hope and joy that I spent a large part of my childhood immersed in her novels. (I'm pretty sure at one point I had an imaginary alter ego residing in Prince Edward Island, Canada). When I first read, quite recently, that she'd committed suicide, it was very hard for me to wrap my mind around how someone from whose pen and mind such unfettered delight flowed, lived in such sadness.

Goes to show, you never know what battles other people might be fighting. Regardless, her writing is one of the most beautiful things I've enjoyed and I still do, and her books are partly why I want to create books of my own.

And if you haven't read her work, I cannot recommend it enough no matter how old you are!
